Meet our Staff!

From Director to Dishwasher, we have hold our staff to a high standard! Read below to learn more about the people that make the magic happen at camp!

"My child said his experience was a 10 out of 10! His favorite things were hanging out with his friends, and playing all camp games. He can’t wait to be back next year."

- Mom of nine-year-old Base Camper

Leadership Staff

Camp Director: Lily Mercogliano Easton

Facility Director: David Easton

Lily and David Mercogliano Easton returned to camp in 2017 to lead the camp program and facility when the camp became an independent organization. They both grew up at Camp WA WA - attending first as campers, and staying as counselors and other staff roles. Lily and David are both educators and have a deep commitment to our camp and mission. They were married at camp in 2011, and live in Albany, NY in the off-season.

Healthcare Consultant: Nella Stoltz

Nella Stoltz has managed the camp’s healthcare for the past ten years. She lives in nearby Torrington, CT and is a MA-certified Nurse Practitioner in Neurosurgery and Pediatric Critical Care in the off-season. All three of Nella’s children have attended and worked at camp and she is extremely committed to providing outstanding camper experiences at Camp WA WA.

Program Director: Annie Okichy

Annie Okichy joined the staff as a counselor in 2017 and has returned ever since! She took over leadership of the program when camp returned from our COVID closure in 2021 and has been instrumental in updating the staff’s crisis response protocols and improving camp program offerings. She is passionate about getting as many campers as possible to WA WA and believes strongly in our capacity to change the lives of young people. Annie is also a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard and lives in Albany, NY in the off-season.

Waterfront Director: Maggie Hodos

Maggie Hodos grew up at camp, starting first when her mom, Beth Hodos, was the camp director here at WA WA and later as a camper and CIT. She returned to lead the waterfront in 2021. Maggie is an expert swim instructor who specializes in beginner swim. She trains all of our lifeguards on site annually and provides instructions for CPR and First Aid on site for our non-waterfront staff. Maggie is a certified Red Cross Lifeguard, Waterfront Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor. Maggie is also a middle school teacher in the Bronx and is a key support person on our program team who helps elevate instruction, program delivery, and leadership training at camp.

Seasonal Staff

Camp WA WA Segowea is proud to welcome an incredible team of seasonal staff each summer to our home on Harmon Pond! Each summer we host 35-40 staff members to lead all areas of our program delivery: program staff (counselors and support roles), kitchen staff (including allergy awareness, special diets, and dishwashing roles), and facility (including maintenance, and program support).

All of our staff are directly referred to Camp WA WA by existing staff, current families, and alumni. We are very fortunate to be able to hire completely via referrals and do not use job-hunting sites for any of our positions. Our staff predominantly travel to camp from the Northeast, like our campers. Additionally, we hire international staff via a cultural exchange program. Our international staff go through the same hiring process and are also referred to us by alumni or current staff who are deeply committed to our mission.

To apply, please click here (account creation required). In addition to completing the application and interview stage, staff must submit four (4) references and complete a background check. If you have questions about the process, please email lily@smithpark.org
